Comprises details of the operations, field acquisition, results and interpretation of the aeromagnetic survey. A total of 2860 km of lines and tie-lines were flown; N-S lines were spaced at 3-6 km, E-W tie-lines were spaced 8, 12 and 16 km apart; flight altitude was 1500' above sea level. The survey aimed to establish maps of the residual anomalies to define the magnetic characteristics of the area. Results indicate a consistent and important deepening towards the south and SW, and a large, relatively shallow zone to the north. There are less than 6000' of sediment over two-thirds of the area; there appears to be only one magnetic marker in the deeper zones. Appendix 1, Young Rocks Aeromagnetic Survey (Geoterrex, 10 pages), is a review of three previous surveys to produce a composite aeromagnetic contour map and an integrated basement structure map. Appendix 2, Geological comments on Young Rocks Aeromagnetic Survey (6 pages), reviews the hydrocarbon potential; three small prospective areas have been identified with up to 8000' of Late Mesozoic to Recent sediments and possible fault or pinch-out traps; a reconnaissance seismic survey is recommended.
