West of Mt Schank, Gambier Limestone is gently folded along - trending NW axis (probably conforming to faults). Fault traces approach NNW and WNW and produce low scarps, karst features and dolomitisation. Between Tantanoola and The Bluff, a NW-trending scarp fault (previously postulated to be an anticline) displaces Gambier Limestone (E. side up). In Naracoorte area limestone is thought to dip very gently from Victoria border to Naracoorte Dune. A drag along Kanawinka Fault explains anomalously elevated Gambier Limestone in this area. Formation base may outcrop near east edge of Hynam- Koppamurra Dune. Reported oil seeps were investigated near Nelson (Victoria) and Geltwood Beach. Nelson report proved false. At Geltwood Beach material obtained from sea gave negative result while beach samples were petroleum but of unproven origin.
