In eastern central Australia the development of a compounded broad epierogenic downwarp known as the Great Artesian Basin Permian-Mesozoic times was a secondary consequence of folding and thrusting in, and against, subcoastal zones of eastern Australia. Orogenies in these latter areas climaxed in Permian and late Mesozoic times.
