Preliminary seismic review carried out by SA Mines Dept using three mile correlation reflection method and some refraction shots. Object to interpret structural configuration as well as stratigraphic identification. Two predominant reflection events. 4 water bores tied in seismically but none deeper than Blythesdale. Describes Cambro-Ordovician sediments plunging beneath this area from NW Seismic evidence - basal Permian unconformity is a principal reflector. Several prominent reflectors (in the Permian-Mesozoic presumably) carried through satisfactorily and confirm deepening section southwards. Refraction surveys were unable to distinguish lower Palaeozoic limestones from basement below the basal Permian reflector. Structurally, section detected several (or the same) deep-seated faults (suspected trend NW - SE) between Cluny bore and Bedourie, and also some gentle undulation. Drilling at Betoota plus regional geological and seismic evidence favour the presence of a Palaeozoic limestone section immediately below the basal Permian reflector for most of the traverse. Enclosures - seismic cross-section; Coopers Creek, Oodnadatta and Broken Hill 16-mile sheets; Dalhousie geological reconnaissance; structure map Simpson Desert surroundings.
