Reports include a description of a non-commercial oil show observed during exploratory percussion drilling in a Cretaceous fossiliferous sandy shale at 190 feet depth in Santos' Oodnadatta 1 wildcat well. Trace amounts of oil and wax of unknown composition were subsequently extracted with low-boiling point solvent from a core sample recovered from this depth. Geologist's reports include a summary of field reconnaissance of surface geology in the Oodnadatta area, plus a press release outline of what the licensee perceives as the oil exploration possibilities existing in the Great Artesian Basin and Lake Torrens regions, with brief results of Santos' exploratory operations to date. A Tropari survey of drillhole inclination in (the then drilling) Wilkatana 9 showed inclinations of 3 and 2 degrees from the vertical at 600 and 800 feet depth respectively. Further small amounts of natural wax were extracted from drillcores taken from Wilkatana nos. 5, 6 and 9.
