Pronounced anomaly in Lake Torrens, 4 miles from E shore, due W of Leigh Creek. 1,700 gammas with maximum gradient of 2,000 gamma/mile. Elongated N-S, as symmetrical (W side steeper). Anomaly is above normal Archaean but much less than those associated with commercial iron deposits. Theoretical pole depth is 7,000. Suggests that Middleback Range type sediments underlie Lake Torrens. Plan showing aeromagnetic profiles; (1) Lake Torrens Anomaly; (2) 8 miles N. of Iron Knob; (3) Through Mount Middleback; (4) Balgowan Anomaly (for all maps: 4 miles = 1 inch; 800 gammas = 1 inch).
