N-E South Australia. Progress report on gravity survey from Beltana to Marree and thence along Birdsville Track. Apart for some coverage in Cowarie area, cross traverses could not be made due to boggy country. Wet season was holding up survey at time of report. Great Artesian Basin Survey (SA) - Previous work. Gravity observations by Geosurveys, 1955, Oodnadatta. Method of survey and corrections-stations located by speedometer mileages on tracks, levels by aneroid, latitudes from 8 mile military sheets. Results shown as contour maps of the Bouguer anomaly, and vertical magnetic intensity, and profiles Marree-Goyders Lagoon. Interpretation of gravity results given for various sections of the traverse. Indication of depth of basin determined from horizontal gradient of magnetic intensity. Suggests variable gravity anomaly between Marree and Coopers Creek warrants more detailed work.
