Chapter headings comprise Introduction, Method of interpretation, Interpretation of Bass Strait survey, Interpretation of Encounter Bay survey, and preliminary Conclusions (summarised below). Encounter Bay Survey: (1) Southern Area - Basement more than 10,000 feet deep south of Kingston. High near Beachport and off-shore to SW. Pronounced minimum, 100 miles long, crossing coast SW of Mount Gambier. To seaward, basement probably occurs below 10,000 feet. (2) Northeast Area - Basement rises sharply along a line from Beachport to Kingston. The high area is split by a N-S trough (probably 8,000 feet in depth). The lack of magnetic features north of Kingston is possibly due to granite without magnetic minerals. (3) Northwest Area - Basement dominantly occurs less than 1,000 feet deep, and is unlikely to exceed 2,000 feet deep, but is deeper in SE corner (possible association with Lucindale Fault extensions).
