AIM: To provide sub-surface structural information on which to site an exploratory well. Secondary objectives were to outline the basin configuration; to determine the sedimentary thickness and regional geological trends and to find the best seismic technique for an extended exploration programme.RESULTS: The 2 NS reconnaissance lines outline a broad asymmetric basin with the axis of the trough located about 20 miles south of outcropping Musgrave Basement Block; the reflection results indicate a sedimentary thickness of 17 000 feet in the base of the trough. Four areas were selected for further investigation. Energy source: Vibroseis (reflection) and explosives (refraction). CDP coverage: 100% and 1000%. Recording mode: Analogue / SSL type AAS. 906 km (100%), 3 km (1000%) and 35 km (refraction) line of 20 channels. SP/VP interval: 610 metres (100%), 457 metres (1000%) and 610 metres (refraction. Survey dates: 1/6/65 - 31/3/66.
