Report on Woomera 1 bore: Located at Phillips Ponds, 4 miles east of Woomera. Spudded on 7/2/58. Stopped at 2,005 feet KB total depth. Hole terminated probably in Late Proterozoic. Drilled sequence was fully cored. One open hole DST was run. Rig release was on 30/5/58. A detailed lithological log is appended to the subject report, and a summary is given below: 13-784 feet: red-brown and greenish-grey shale, with minor sandstone and siltstone in top 263 feet. 784-1,117 feet: medium to coarse pinkish sandstone with minor slate and siltstone. 1,117-1,490 feet: grey shale with some gypsum and anhydrite veins. Silty bands more frequent towards base. 1,490-2,005 feet (TD): reddish-brown medium to coarse sandstone with minor pebble beds. Some arkosic and micaceous beds. No discernable fossils or hydrocarbons. Author recommends: (a) palaeontological examination; (b) electric logging; (c) one drill stem test, to be run at 1,490 feet KB; (d) analysis of any extractable hydrocarbons. Report on Mount Eba - Millers Creek area: Myers and Jessup (CSIRO) reported plant fossils near Mount Eba Homestead and marine Cretaceous fossils in the Millers Creek area (in Miles' ?Cretaceous beds). Makes the area a more interesting petroleum prospect. Further field geological work in this area is recommended, partly to select a site for a possible stratigraphic bore.
