AIM: This 24-fold reconnaisance survey of Shell's deepwater (i.e. greater than 1000 metres water depth) Great Australian Bight exploration acreage was designed to gather good quality seismic reflection data to allow more accurate mapping of structural features and give better definition of potentially large and drillable prospects in EPPs 10 and 11. As an addendum to the survey, three 48-fold detail lines were programmed within EPP 7 to investigate the southeastern part of this permit, where a prospective Upper Cretaceous sequence may be present, subcropping against the base Tertiary unconformity. R 7 survey data acquired previously in this area suggests that step-faulting may provide for a structural trap in the Quokka lead. METHODS: Survey dates: 27/1 - 21/2/74. Energy source: Tuned airgun array. CDP coverage: 2400% (reconnaisance) and 4800% (semi-detailed). Recording mode: 48 channel digital - Texas Instruments DFS III recorder. SP interval: 66.7 and 33.3 metres, group interval: 67.0 metres. 53 reflection seismic lines totalling 1766 line km (49 km within EPP 7, 884 km within EPP 10 and 833 km within EPP 11) were acquired by the Geophysical Service International Party 931 M/V Eugene McDermott II, and processed by GSI in Sydney. Marine magnetometer and fathometer recordings were also made along all deepwater reconnaisance lines.
