EPP 7 work conditions for 1975 (permit Year 7) required evaluation and review studies to be carried out with the aim of defining at least three areas which may have prospects geologically and geophysically as sites for wells. This report sets out the results of these studies, which include a geophysical review of the entire permit area. In the course of this review a set of five new 1:100,000 maps of a Cretaceous horizon over the permit area were produced. Despite an average exploration density of 1 line per 1.5 miles of seismic data recorded and processed with modern techniques over the shallow water portion of the Duntroon Basin, no structural traps could be found at the Turonian-Albian 'Platypus Sand' primary objective level. This interval, in which excellent source rocks for gas with a possibility of some oil are interbedded with sands of good porosity, is thought to have once been present throughout the EPP 7 portion of the basin, but was stripped from the great majority of the permit area during the Late Cretaceous uplift accompanying continental breakup. The only other significant exploration targets remaining in EPP 7 are 'A' Horizon (near base Tertiary) dip closures which carry a high risk with regard to sealing, maturity of Lower Cretaceous source rock, and timing of migration, and thus are not attractive. In view of these conclusions Shell Development decided to surrender EPP 7 at the end of the current permit year, in January 1976.
