Possible high-yielding oil shales of the Middle Cretaceous Toolebuc Formation, believed to be present within 125 m of the ground surface along the Dalhousie Anticline in the vicinity of previously drilled Pedirka Basin petroleum exploration wells Mount Crispe 1 and Witcherrie 1, were targeted in a work programme which consisted of scout drilling 10 open rotary holes for a total penetration of 919.5 m. Oil yield analyses, obtained by Fischer distillation of drill cuttings samples taken at 2-metre intervals, indicated that the rocks penetrated contain only background quantities of shale oil (0.5 - 1.5 l/t), except for some thin (<5 m) siltstone / fine sandstone layers intersected in holes PDK 1, 5 and 8, which had up to 5.0 l/t.
