Licence over 5265 square km granted on 18/6/81. Exploration included: 1. a consultant's study of the Cambrian stratigraphy, 2. drilling of Yarrah 1 in the Wilkatana area - results were inconclusive, 3. drilling of Old Motpena 1 near Lake Torrens, 35 km SW of Parachilna. This well possibly downgrades the hydrocarbon potential of PEL 19 because: - it negates the theory of a thick younger prospective basin and contradicts the limited seismic basin model, - the Cambrian thins westwards and displays poor source potential, but has moderate reservoir potential.

    Notes: Geological evaluation of the hydrocarbon potential of the Lake Torrens area, SA. by R K Workum prefix annual reports. A study was made of the Cambrian stratigraphy to determine the nature source and reservoir potential of these sediments. From review of the Cambrian geology to the west of the permit area, Cambrian sediments are likely to thin across the permit and be of restricted shelf nature. This evidence conflicts with that shown in seismic line AG76A, which indicates relatively flat lying sequence to depth of 3 seconds two way time. Therefore, this thick sequence may be younger and more prospective  See also well completion reports in Env 4693 (Yarrah 1) and Env 5877 (Old Motpena 1). Licence subsequently cancelled on 18/12/84.
