The work program was focussed in the offshore Gemini 1 well area, and consisted of: (1) petrographic studies and age dating of bottomhole core samples from Gemini 1; (2) reprocessing of 5 x 1971 seismic lines, to attempt to improve data quality and obtain useful velocity analyses; (3) a specialist consultant's interpretation of 5000 line km of aeromagnetic data acquired by Outback Oil in 1978. The age dating results suggest that the basalt found in the Gemini 1 bottomhole core may be younger than early Palaeozoic and is not basement, so it is likely that the prospective Polda Graben extends further westwards than previously thought. The hydrocarbon potential of the permit area is therefore much enhanced.
