37 samples of drill core (2 from Tertiary, 23 from Eumeralla Formation, 12 from Pretty Hill Formation) were examined for organic matter type and abundance and maturation level. The source potential of the Lower Cretaceous is fair to good, but several organic rich horizons showing a very good source potential are also present. The organic rich sediments from the deeper part of the Lower Cretaceous are immature to early mature and significant amounts of hydrocarbons from the early phase of generation may have been generated from this sequence.
