21 samples of drill cuttings and drill core (3 from Tertiary, 11 from Eumeralla Formation, 7 from Pretty Hill Formation) were examined for organic matter type and abundance and maturation. The source potential of the Lower Cretaceous sequence is fair to good, but the deepest part of the Eumarella Formation shows very good source potential, if the abundant coal is included in the assessment. Although these sediments reach only marginal maturity, the maceral associations indicate that considerable hydrocarbons from the early phase of generation may have been generated.
