Report describes the results of a detailed petrographic study of cores 1 and 2 cut from the Toolachee Formation reservoir unit in Kirby 2. The contract work included core logging and sample selection, preparation of thin and polished sections, thin section descriptions and photomicroscopy, XRD analysis, and cathodoluminescence and SEM studies. 23 samples were collected, mostly opposite core plugs to provide a direct reference between observed and measured porosity and permeability characters. 3 samples came from the highly fractured zones to investigate the nature of the fracturing and its potential effect on gas drainage.
