27 oil samples obtained on drillstem testing of various Mesozoic and Permian formations in wells spread across the Delhi-Santos petroleum exploration licence areas were subjected to organic geochemical analysis to determine their geochemical characteristics and to see if any genetic relationship exists amongst them. The samples, which had been grouped into 4 divisions based roughly on geographic locality,were submitted to C1-C31 whole oil gas-liquid chromatography and C12+ purified aromatic high resolution gas chromatography. The C1-C31 whole oil analyses included a detailed breakdown of the C1-C7 light hydrocarbon compounds. Based on these results twelve samples were selected for liquid chromatography and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. Detailed discussions of the thermal maturity and crude oil characterisation interpretations for each division of samples form the substance of this report, along with numerous graphs and tables of oil properties and a section on analysis theory and methods. The authors present a number of ideas concerning the possible migration history and nature of the source material for the individual oil samples, besides relating these ideas to evidence from their other, prior oil analyses and interpretations based in the same areas.
