Duerden Energy NL contracted Exploration Laboratories Pty Ltd to carry out a soil gas geochemical survey of 1012 line kms between 27/8-11/9/91, to hand sample the near ground surface (< 40 cms depth) soil profile for extractable hydrocarbons in the range C1 to C5, at 453 sample stations spread across the licence area. After identifying some broad zones of interest, and generating a follow-up Landsat and aerial photographic interpretation to relate these anomalies to a structural model, the operator farmed out a half interest in the licence and reduced the licence area to lessen the exploration commitment. When the farminee withdrew after 6 months, Duerden Energy was unable to fund ongoing exploration and so surrendered the licence.
