AIM: Previous semi-detailed seismic mapping of the licence area by the former PELs 5 and 6 licensees had identified several prospects and leads worthy of follow-up detailed seismic work. 7 new lines of infill seismic totalling 60 line km were therefore acquired over the largest features, the Crater (48 line km) and Taltra (12 line km) Prospects, to upgrade them to drillable status and identify optimum locations for wildcat wells. In addition, seismic reprocessing was undertaken on several older lines at the Crater Prospect to improve data quality for structural mapping. METHODS: Survey dates: 23/6/92 - 29/6/92. Energy source: Vibroseis. CDP coverage: 6000%. Recording mode: 120 channel digital - Sercel S/N 348 recorder. SP interval: 25.0 metres, group interval: 25.0 metres. RESULTS: Although complicated reflector structuring in the rim of the buried meteorite crater made processing and migration of the seismic data slow and difficult, definition of the Crater and Taltra Prospects appears to have been upgraded relative to earlier seismic mapping results. Data obtained over the Crater Prospect was poorer in quality than anticipated, especially in the highly disturbed Jurassic Eromanga sequence, whereas the quality of seismic data obtained at the Taltra Prospect was very good. Closure of approximately 80 square km has been mapped at Cretaceous Coorikiana Sandstone level over the Crater Prospect, while the Taltra Prospect exhibits closure of approximately 66 square km at top Cadna-owie Formation level. Drilling locations have been proposed for both prospects.
