This review of the geological and geophysical data from the PEL 55 area forms a major part of the Year 1 work commitment on the licence, apart from the remaining obligation to carry out reprocessing of 200 line km of seismic. Available reports from previous regional studies, including those addressing hydrogeological and source rock geochemical work besides geophysical and drilling projects, have been used to gain an in-depth picture of the licence prospectivity, and to assist in planning future exploration activity. The operator has also reinterpreted existing seismic records to identify 18 leads embracing 3 potential oil reservoir levels within the local sedimentary sequence: further assessment of these structures will be a priority task for Year 2, involving the acquisition of new detailed seismic to help define sites for test drilling.
