This report forms part of a continuing study of the Permian in the Cooper Basin by the PELs 5 and 6 licensees. All cuttings and cores from wells drilled in the Moomba and Big Lake field areas, and from Burley 1 in the Nappamerri Low depocentre, have been examined in order to more fully elucidate basin depositional parameters involved in the genesis, local distribution and wider subregional trends of potential gas reservoir rocks. Stratigraphic cross sections and various types of derivative stratigraphic maps have been generated to test the applicability of contemporary methods of basin analysis. Current stratigraphic rock units have been analysed, their definitions modified where necessary, and subunits have been placed within a workable time-stratigraphic framework. The aim is to provide a working model for delineating areas of greatest economic potential throughout the entire prospective Permian sequence.
