A complete re-evaluation of all known prospects and leads within EPP 21 was undertaken by the permittees in order to define any prospects worthy of drilling in permit Year 4, ending 28 June 1986, by which time a commitment to drill one well and acquire 1000 km of seismic data must have been embarked upon, otherwise the permit had to be surrendered. A number of prospects were identified with the potential to trap recoverable oil reserves of 50 to 300 MMBBL, but the overall risk for success in drilling to discover them was calculated to be prohibitively high (1 in 22 at best). Consequently, it was recommended that EPP 21 be surrendered.
