Hydrocarbon pool productivity as indicated from wireline logs, compared to that proven by drill stem testing, for the majority of wells drilled in PELs 5 and 6 since early 1990, has been reviewed by the licences' operator, with a view to complementing the Catalogue of Log Responses prepared by K. Solomon of Santos in 1989. Log responses to hydrocarbons found in the various formations of the Cooper and Eromanga Basins have been subdivided into the following categories: 1. Oversize caliper log response (poor hole conditions) 2. Low true formation resistivity 3. Thin reservoir sands 4. Epsilon Formation production 5. Production from volcanic rocks 6. Production from naturally fractured reservoir rocks 7. (Production adjacent to) Gas-water contacts 8. Water-filled sands above gas sands 9. Oil production from a sand below a water-filled sand 10. High true formation resistivity, yet poor gas flow results 11. DSTs run off cement plugs (in deep and hot wells) 12. High gas flow rates. Each of these categories is briefly reviewed, giving tabulated examples of relevant well log interpreted reservoir parameters versus actual DST flow results. Annotated electric well log sections are also included for each example to illustrate the individual log responses discussed.
