The included reports set forth the technical justification for drilling certain known structural prospects located in hitherto unconventional petroleum exploration settings within the Cooper Basin region, as potential high upside risked gas targets. The reports originate from the newly created South Australian Petroleum Exploration Group, a semi-autonomous organization of ex - South Australian Department of Mines geoscientists set up and funded by the SA State Government in 1975 and empowered through its June 1977 Independent Exploration Initiative to: (1) manage the State Government's exploration and production interests in PELs 5 and 6 recently acquired from the Commonwealth Government's Petroleum and Minerals Authority; (2) provide independent (of the Cooper Basin Producers' industry-based cartel) specialist advice on Cooper Basin natural gas prospectivity, and undertake specific related field operations in the Cooper Basin region; and (3) endeavour thereby to maintain or bolster the discovery rate of natural gas reserves to the extent required to support a proposed contract continuing beyond 1987 to supply PASA with gas for electric power generation plus reticulated fuel supplies in South Australia.
