The Commonwealth Government-subsidised Giles Aeromagnetic Survey was flown over a 50,000 square mile region of the Officer Basin which is essentially devoid of outcrop, to allow the licensee to determine the regional configuration of magnetic basement, and also to indicate the thickness and distribution of potentially hydrocarbon-prospective pre-Mesozoic sediments which could be similar to those known in the adjacent Cooper and Amadeus Basins. It is intended to conduct seismic surveys over selected areas derived from the data interpretation, with a view to carrying out future drill tests.
