AIM:To obtain regional reconnaisance seismic information to provide support in the reprocessing and reinterpretation of existing data, and to try to broadly identify potential drillable structures within the EPP 19 area and link them to existing well control. METHODS: Survey dates: 11/5 - 18/5/82. Energy source: Tuned airgun array. CDP coverage: 4800%. Recording mode: 96 channel digital - Texas Instruments DFS V recorder. SP interval: 33.3 metres, group interval: 33.3 metres.RESULTS:7 lines totalling 544 line km within EPP 19 were acquired by the Geophysical Service Inc. Party 2993 M/V Lady Vilma, during the course of that company acquiring its own Bight traverse regional speculative marine seismic, gravity and magnetics survey of 13 lines totalling approximately 1248 line km. The EPP 19 seismic data was pre-sold to Outback Oil for $300 per line km of agreed programme, as this unsolicited work would be timely in assisting the EPP 19 permittee to meet its permit Year 2 seismic commitment of 500 km of new data. The data tapes were processed in Houston, Texas, by Grant Geophysical Corp., Inc., and the resulting final sections were interpreted by Texas Geophysical Co. Inc. The permit operator has identified pronounced shelf-edge faulting and a generally thin shoreward sedimentary section as possible negative outcomes of the new seismic work, which has otherwise done little to modify previous interpretations. Only 3 lines near the Platypus prospect profiled areas where water depths are economic and where sufficient geological section exists to be deemed prospective, but little structural relief was noted at either Tertiary or Upper Cretaceous levels along strike, while slope area dip sections were so complicated by fault breaks as to be almost unmappable.
