Modern, multifold seismic data over the far eastern Officer Basin have been reinterpreted and seven reflectors mapped in time. Parts of six major structural zones are identified in the region: Munyarai Tough, Marla Overthrust Zone, Ammaroodinna Ridge, Manya Trough, Middle Bore Ridge and Wintinna Trough. The principal information sources for the review were 3,059 km of modern (post 1979) seismic data, 7 petroleum wildcat wells and 42 deep mineral/stratigraphic bores, nine of which recorded oil shows. Oil shows, principally in Early Cambrian playa lake carbonates, are concentrated in the Marla Overthrust Zone. Cambrian and Late Proterozoic sandstone reservoirs are inferred to occur at depth and have been partly intersected in three mineral drillholes. Extension fault-controlled anticlines, thrust-associated anticlines and strike-slip structures, sealed variously by salt, carbonate or redbeds, form the principal traps for oil and gas. Diapiric structures may occur locally. Nine regional seismic lines (387.5 km) are recommended to tie between existing data to the north and south, to improve knowledge of the Manya Trough and adjacent ridges, and to assist location of leads and prospects.
