In South Australia, the intracratonic eastern Officer Basin, which may contain up to 10 km of Neoproterozoic to Paleozoic sediments, is bounded by the Precambrian Gawler Craton to the southeast, the Musgrave Block to the north, and passes into sediment of the western Officer Basin to the west. The northeastern boundary of the basin is poorly defined, but was probably continuous with the Amadeus Basin. The purpose of this study was to compile the available information about the geologic history of the basin, and make a recommendation that can be used as a guide for further geohistory analysis to clarify hydrocarbon maturation timing in the eastern Officer Basin. The burial history analysis presented is based on data collected from three wells (Manya 6, Giles 1 and Munyarai 1) and published and unpublished information. Emphasis is placed on describing the often ignored Permian and Mesozoic units because of their importance in documenting sea level changes and younger deformations that are critical to this type of analysis.
