Thin sections from the Pretty Hill Sandstone in 5 Otway Basin wells located on or near gas pools in this formation were examined petrologically and point counted for mineralogical identification of the proportion of feldspar present. A staining technique was used to reveal more accurately the amount of potassium feldspar present in very fine grained to silty samples, to try to differentiate authigenic feldspar crystals grown amongst the rock matrix from feldspar forming framework grains or lithic constituents.
