Organic petrology of the Birkhead Formation, Eromanga Basin.

Drill cuttings samples of the Birkhead Formation from 16 wells were selected for a petrographic study of the organic matter they contain. Comparisons were made between the organic petrographic characteristics of wells with no shows in either the Birkhead or the underlying Hutton Sandstone, and those of wells with hydrocarbon occurrences in both of these stratigraphic units. No relationships were found between either the quantity or type of dispersed organic matter and well productivity.
