Contains information relating to the South Australian portion of the inaugural, offshore southern Australian broad reconnaissance reflection seismic survey conducted by BHP Ltd's new petroleum exploration subsidiary Haematite Explorations Pty Ltd in late 1962 - early 1963. 2127 line miles of analogue seismic profiles were shot over three major basins of the Australian continental shelf, including 657 line miles in the Otway Basin (then not yet formally named) of South Australia. The local coverage consisted of a ladder-like grid of 18 lines occupying the near coastal strip between Kingston (S-E) and the SA/Vic. border, within an area of OEL 26 200 miles long and up to 18 miles wide. Seismic data quality here was disappointing, due both to early technical and newly apparent geological difficulties, but firm encouragement for further seismic work was found.
