The Munkarie Prospect is an anticlinal play in the Tenappera Trough of the Cooper Basin. Seismic coverage and quality are just adequate putting the existence of closure to the structure beyond reasonable doubt. Munkarie is a low relief structure, with a maximum vertical closure of only 150 feet at the top of the prospective section. The primary target is the Patchawarra Formation, which may be up to 850 feet thick. A total Net Effective Pay of 90 feet is predicted. The anticipated total depth of Munkarie 1 is 8130 feet, in pre-Permian sediments. The Munkarie site occurs almost midway between two gas wells, Brumby 1 distant about 8.8 km to the north-east and Toolachee 7 10.5 km away to the west. Both wells produced gas and some condensate from the Patchawarra Formation. A similar situation is expected for the Munkarie 1 well, and maximum Sales Gas reserves of 220 BCF are anticipated. In fact, there is a possibility that at the level of the top of the Patchawarra Formation ('V'-Horizon), the Brumby and Munkarie culminations are bounded by a uniform closing contour. If seal is provided by a major fault to the south-east, then the combined structure possibly could contain very large reserves of gas. This well is proposed as part of the 1978 Independent Exploration Programme to be carried out on behalf of PASA. Delhi will be the operator. Ownership of any petroleum discovered will remain with the partners to the Toolachee area 50/30/10/10 Farmout agreement.
