During the remapping of the Willippa Anticline by Frontier Exploration Ltd a number of copper bearing gossans were located within the outcrop of Burra Group strata on the crest of the structure. The main gossan, which outcrops just to the north-west of the Willippa 1 drillsite, is approximately 100 metres by 2 metres, and has been prospected many years ago. Associated with it are several other relatively small gossans, which occur spasmodically heading easterly from this locality along the crest of the structure. A separate but similar gossan is located some 7.5 km north-west of Willippa 1, near the intersection of two well-marked tracks. A sample taken from the remnants of an old ore stockpile at the northerly end of the main gossan was submitted to Amdel Ltd for wide-ranging chemical analysis and mineragraphic examination. A further 20 randomly selected grab samples of the various gossans were also analysed by Amdel for major base metals only. Although the gossans are too small to be of economic value, the leached and weathered boxwork structures are encouraging to the search for a deeper underlying source of base metal bearing solutions.
