Special seismic processing of three offshore seismic lines in south-western Gulf St Vincent was undertaken for Canyon by a Houston, Texas - based consultant, who performed a high resolution velocity analysis using the pre-stack migrated data, followed by trace inversion and amplitude correction through re-migration, culminating in the presentation of enhanced visual dynamic range colour record displays. The aims of this project were four-fold: (1) to confirm the presence or absence of reefal or shelf edge characteristics in the subsurface that have been seen on the surface and in drill cores from Yorke Peninsula; (2) to confirm the presence or absence of porous reservoirs in the subsurface; (3) to investigate interesting seismic anomalies possibly indicative of hydrocarbons present within target reservoirs on seismically defined prospects; (4) finally, to investigate certain shallow seismic anomalies which may be indicative of gas plumes rising within sediments lying immediately above some of the southern faulted structural prospects.
