A review of stratigraphic information for all the wells drilled in the PEL 62 area was undertaken to investigate the distribution of Cretaceous sedimentary units along part of the northern limiting boundary of the Otway Basin. The main prospective horizon with good reservoir properties is thought to be the Pretty Hill Formation. The petroleum play envisaged in this part of the basin is associated with the updip sandstone pinchout of this formation. The Eumeralla Formation is expected to provide a seal to this type of play. The data base for this study consisted of open file reports on a few coal drillholes drilled by Western Mining Corp. in the western part of the licence area, adjacent to the Kingston Coal Field, logs from a number of water bores drilled by many different agencies and individuals, and detailed data from a few petroleum wildcats drilled to the south of PEL 62. The results have been compiled as a series of individual well cards and then portrayed as a series of dip and strike sections showing the distribution of all the near surface sedimentary units.
