Brief results of a consultant's seismic re-mapping of the area north and west of the Killanoola 1 oil discovery well, to try to find step-out drilling locations that lie within PEL 62. Killanoola 1 on drill stem test in April 1998 recovered 12 barrels of oil from the Sawpit Sandstone reservoir at the base of the Lower Cretaceous Pretty Hill Sandstone, from within a tilted fault block structure. Several of these tilted fault blocks are seen to lie to the north of Killanoola, but effective sealing against marginal basement highs and persistence of the target Sawpit reservoir facies are limiting factors to the mapped oil potential, as borne out by the results of earlier drilling at Bool Lagoon 1. Accordingly, the best prospect is rated as that lying immediately adjacent to Killanoola, called Porthos, which it is thought may hold between 13 and 38 million barrels of recoverable oil.
