Fugro Survey Pty Ltd (Fugro) were contracted by Australian Drilling Associates Pty Ltd (ADA) on behalf of Apache, Nexus, 3D Oil, Oilex and Beach, to provide geophysical survey services to the Site Survey Bass Strait Consortium Project. A total of four sites were surveyed in the Otway Basin and seven in the Gippsland Basin. The purpose of the geophysical surveys were to obtain bathymetric, seabed and shallow geology data to enable the safe installation of jack-up drilling rigs at various sites and to identify any hazards or anomalies within the surveyed areas. The geophysical data was simultaneously acquired using Single Beam Echo Sounder (SBES), Multibeam Echo Sounder (MBES), Side Scan Sonar (SSS) and Sub-bottom Profiler (SBP) Systems. Seabed samples were obtained using a gravity corer and grab sampler. Survey duration was from 6th to 18th April 2007 using the MV Southern Explorer. The survey scope of work is summarised below: • To collect sufficient seabed and shallow geology data to enable the safe installation of jack-up drilling rigs at various sites. • To identify seabed terrain features and any hazards that may impact the location of proposed wellheads and the installation of jack-up drilling rigs. • Confirm the absence of anomalous features within the vicinity of proposed drilling locations and the jack-up anchoring spread. The Site Surveys at Asuncion and Havanna B were conducted for Oilex during April 9th and 10th April 2007. All processing and final reporting was completed by Fugro in their Perth offices. The survey concluded efficiently and the project objectives were successfully achieved. No shallow geological hazards such as buried paleo-channels or high amplitude reflectors were mapped within the Asuncion site.
