Santos Ltd proposed to record the 2011 Nephrite 3D VSP and Microseismic Survey over an area of 64km2 centred on the 2 wells, Nephrite South 6 and 8. It was intended the survey to be in 2 parts, namely 1. the 3D VSP acquisition will take place using a vibrator source and downhole geophones. 2. A surface receiver grid to be deployed to detect microseismic events during proposed fraccing of Nephrite South 6 and 8 drillholes. Terrex seismic Ltd was responsible for the areal component of the VSP survey while Baker Hughes Inc. was responsible for the recording of the VSP component. The surface survey grid consisted of 30 receiver lines spaced 275m apart and 70 source lines spaced 75m apart. Receiver stations were pegged at 275 station interval and VP locations were 75m apart. The objectives of the VSP survey were to: • provide time/depth information. • Calibrate acoustic log and generate synthetic seismograms • Generate VSP Corridor Stack, while the intent of the microseismic survey was to monitor and record events stimulated by proposed fraccing programs to be conducted in Nephrite South 6 and 8. The recording of the VSP survey took place from 1st November until the 11th November while the microseismic survey was subsequently abandoned due to continuing tool problems down hole. The location of the survey was approximately 45 kms north-west of Moomba in the Santos held PPL’s 66, 95 & 140. All data has been processed by VSfusion a Baker Hughes Inc company in Jakarta, Indonesia.
