PEL 127 was granted to Strike Energy for an initial term of 5 years on 15th June 2005. The title was subsequently transferred to Kingston Energy Pty Ltd and later to Hybrid Energy Aust., both subsidiaries of Strike Energy. The original licence area was approximately 2098km2 in area and centred on the Kingston Coal deposit some 30 km NE of Kinston SE. This Petroleum Exploration Licence was held in conjunction with Mineral Licences EL 3385/4576. The holding of these licences simultaneously gave exclusive rites/opportunity to assess the deposit in terms of coal, coal seam gas and gasification of the lignite deposit and thus avoiding conflicting interests. During their tenure Hybrid Energy Aust. commissioned some 34 studies and research projects using essentially data collected by previous tenement holders over the area. The main focus of these investigations included the following: • Assessment of the Kingston Coal Deposits • Economics and Potential uses of Kingston Coal • Groundwater management/issues associated with developing the deposit • Environmental Studies No field operations were conducted (including either drilling or geophysical surveys) during their tenure by Hybrid Energy Aust. and the licence was finally surrendered on 14th September 2014 prior to conducting a feasibility study for developing the project.
