Reconnaissance mapping and sampling of an area of poorly exposed Precambrian crystalline basement north of Kingoonya has shown that the regional geology is dominated by intensely folded, discontinuously outcropping banded iron formations that are contained within a pyroxene granulite facies metamorphic sequence which occupies most of the licence area, save for some granite and acid volcanic intrusive rocks present in the south and south-west parts. Magnetic lag pebbles collected on a low rise 8 miles south of Mulgathing Homestead assayed 0.16% V and 21.4% Ti. Further investigations of the shallowly covered bedrock revealed a hornblende andesinite extrusive rock covering at least 200 square miles, that contains scattered sulphides and up to 5% volume of vanadiferous ilmenite. Geochemical analyses of soil samples have located a low order nickel-copper anomaly within metajaspilite rocks at Blackfellow Hill, with up to 1100 ppm Ni and 250 ppm Cu, and follow-up investigations have shown these values to be associated with a montmorillonite - chlorite - magnesite rich weathering zone, interpreted to represent the position of a metamorphosed basic / ultrabasic intrusion. Mapping of intrusive igneous rocks outcropping in the south-eastern part of the licence area disclosed dykes of pyritic diorite carrying minor inclusions of chalcopyrite and covellite, which are also of interest and warrant further prospecting.
