In the Terowie - Whyte Yarcowie district, and in other nearby areas to the east and south-east, ongoing reconnaissance/infill stream sediment and bulk sampling of highland areas, plus detailed grid-based loam sampling of alluvium on lower-lying arid plains, was undertaken across a region of known widespread characteristically kimberlitic indicator minerals, to try to locate their inferred buried ultrabasic intrusive source rocks. Numerous occurrences of kimberlite were identified from the gathering and mineralogical analysis of thousands of such surface samples, by trenching and costeaning sites of anomalously high abundance of indicator minerals. The intrusions usually were found in the form of dykes varying in width from 18 inches to 20 feet, with some taking the form of pipes or diatremes up to 150 yards in diameter. These bodies penetrate the Burra and Umberatana Group country rocks and seem to be localised near their common boundary. They comprise weathered, brecciated and xenolith-rich to massive kimberlites of both lamphophyric and basaltic affinities. Importantly, 2 small microdiamonds each of 0.0005 carat size were seen in processed bulk samples taken from the Pine Creek and Ketchowla kimberlite localities.
