In a search for possible economic deposits of gypsum formed within Recent fluvio-lacustrine surficial sediments in an area located 40 km north of Overland Corner on the River Murray, scout drilling of 34 shallow exploratory auger holes totalling 150 m of penetration has indicated that exposed and near-surface gypsum is present in moderate amount only as the dispersed "flour" [gypsarenite] type within dunes, but that no massive authigenic [gypsite] beds underlie the two largest of the adjacent claypans. The licensee was unable to appraise the likely tonnage of flour gypsum found, owing to constant problems with vehicle bogging that limited easy drill rig access to the dunes.
