AIM:To obtain reconnaissance regional seismic data over the northern Birdsville Track Ridge, by tying between previous seismic coverage shot in the Wilparoo area of Queensland and along the northern margin of the Patchawarra Trough in the northeastern Cooper Basin area of South Australia.METHODS: Survey dates: 27/9/79 - 3/11/79. Energy source: Explosives - line source (Geoflex). CDP coverage: 600%. Recording mode: 48 channel digital - TI DFS III recorder. SP interval: 280.0 metres, group interval: 70.0 metres.4 new lines totalling 298 line km of 6-fold reflection seismic data were acquired as a basis for future seismic work.RESULTS:The survey provided coverage for the north and northeastern parts of the Birdsville Track Ridge, and located a number of promising structural leads requiring follow-up. The northeastern portion of the block appears the most prospective, with a large Mesozoic anticline lying between SPs 1320-1500 on line 79-QAM, and several other fault-bounded rollovers recognised along this line and the intersecting line 79-QAN. Further seismic evaluation of the block will require a programme of about 1000 line km to be run in its centre and northwestern parts, besides delineation of the leads identified in the Haddon Downs area on line 79-QAM.
