Exploration was concentrated on the Early Jurassic Poolowanna Formation, which contains oil in Poolowanna 1 in the centre of the block. The Permian sequence is mostly thin and confined to the NW part of the block, but may also have a modest oil potential. Seven wells have been drilled and a small oil flow to surface was recorded in Poolowanna 1, drilled in 1978. Of the 3 subsequent wells, Walkandi 1 and Kuncherinna 1 recorded fluorescence in the Poolowanna Formation and underlying Peera Peera Formation. Data for this study were drawn mainly from wireline logs, available cores and other lithological data contained in lithologs and well completion reports.
