A technical paper discussing the concept of static corrections as applied to the processing of seismic data recorded by Santos Ltd in the Cooper Basin. As the search for subtle structural drilling targets approaches seismic resolution limits of 10 milliseconds in defining closures, there is a pressing requirement to refine the methods of correcting seismic data. Three categories of investigation are discussed : - surface consistent statics - model-based techniques - integration of lithologic and structural information. Areas of application requiring further research and refinement are then discussed, i.e. accuracy, repeatability, reliability and limitations to existing methodologies.
