An assessment of the petroleum potential of the Pedirka farmout area, occasioned by the February 1989 compulsory 25% acreage relinquishment of PELs 5 and 6. Items reviewed include Block geology, farmout arrangements, future commitments, an inventory of prospects and leads, and the intended relinquishment plan. At present 16 large prospects (4-way dip closures) of the order of 500 to 8000 acres in size remain untested, as do 100 weak leads requiring further seismic delineation. Exploration includes 7944 line kms of seismic and 12 wells, plus regional gravity and magnetics surveys, at a cost approaching $90 million. All wells were plugged and abandoned, but Poolowanna 1 encountered a small oil flow in the Lower Jurassic and a small wet gas flow in the Upper Triassic, Walkandi 1 intersected fair oil shows in the Lower Jurassic and in the Middle and Lower Triassic and Kuncherinna 1 reported trace oil shows in the Lower Jurassic.
