Techniques for mitigating the environmental impacts of geophysical exploration track cutting, and for rehabilitating existing tracks in the central Australian arid zone, were researched. Detailed observations were made at 60 sites in a wide range of different terrain types at Comalco's exploration grid within PELs 23 and 30 in the Officer Basin. The environmental impact reduction measures and reclamation activities carried out in PEL 23 to July 1988 are summarized, and photographs of the types of worksites and environments peculiar to the arid zone are included.
