EPP 19 covering approximately 28,000 square km in the offshore western Duntroon Basin was granted to Outback Oil Co. NL for six years from 3/7/81. During a tenure period of just over 3 years Outback Oil spent almost $900,000 on office studies, the contract reprocessing and evaluation of 690.15 km of older Shell seismic data, and the acquisition of 544 line km of new regional seismic information (the 'Aywon' Marine Seismic Survey) as an adjunct to the speculative seismic survey of the Great Australian Bight run by GSI in mid-1982. Lack of funds and poor investor support led to a complete failure to meet the postponed permit Year Two work commitments of 1500 km of new seismic and one exploration well by the end of Year Three: the operator was allowed to surrender the permit without penalty shortly thereafter.
